Wednesday Evening
Happy 4th to Everyone!
We hope that you have had a positive and meaningful day: have had lots of fun and enjoyed the company of others.
It has been a positive day for us. Praise the Lord! We have had lots of visitors: Maureen, Troy, and Brook G., Paula and Wally J, and Cheryl and Bruce E. Though it has been a cloudy day outside it has been a bright and cheerful day inside. We have also received several phone calls and Marty has been able to keep up with it all. Praise the Lord!
Marty had a hard time getting going this morning – I wonder if it is something the nurses put in the air, because I talked to the families of several other patients and their loved ones had the same problem this morning. (Just kidding!) But, once she got awake and going she has indeed been on the go. I am not going to go into a lot about her numbers, because they are kind of all over the place. We are still certainly in the situation where people are commenting on how good she looks – I still wish everybody could get that straight, it is how good looking and beautiful she is – but if she could only feel as good as she looks. If her insides were only as good as her outsides we would be home free. The one number comment that I do want to make is about her WBC. The WBC today was up to 51.9 and when I first saw that I could hardly believe it. That is the highest it has ever been – what in the world is going on? All of the sudden then I remember that as part of the chemo treatment they had given her medicine last night to stimulate the WBC. I think it worked!!!!! Praise the Lord! So, now there are a lot of bad guys in there for that chemo to go to work on. She got her first dose of it this afternoon. One down – four more to go!!
Marty continues to cough, to receive breathing treatments every 8 hours, and to use one of those incentive spirometers (like you have after a surgery) that she tries to use once an hour. The doctors tell us the lungs are improving, but not back to normal. Marty continues to try and drink a lot, and her intake and output is very good. Never-the-less, the BUN numbers are high indicating some possible problems with the kidneys. She is also continuing to walk 4 times a day and to eat 3 meals a day. And another area of concern is B M’s so she is being very careful about what she eats. As you can see that are a number of areas that are being watched. And of course, God has the whole situation is His watchful eye, and is in control. Praise the Lord!
Well, last night I had a bad case of the “forgetfuls” and of course when I got to the motor home and into bed I remember it all. But, I did not write it down, so, this morning I could still remember who I was talking to, but it was not until this afternoon that I remembered the topic. When you hear what the topic is you will not believe it. First though, I was talking to one of the other patients, a 73 year old woman with AML and a young graduate nurse. And second, the topic was trust. One of the things that the woman mentioned is that we trust a person the more that we get to know them. As I thought about how true that is with people to people, I also thought about how true it is with people to God. If we only know that there is a God, worship Him on the surface, and do not know God in a personal way, our trust of God is not at a very high level particularly when a crisis comes. While on the other hand, if we have a deep personal relationship with God, know His teachings and follow them, are followers of the way of Jesus as servants of the Lord our trust in God is much higher. Now, when we put that together with our attitudes and feelings with trust of people here on earth, don’t we really find the same things to be true? Until we really get to know a person in a very personal way, our trust level for that person is usually at a middle or lower level. But, when we know them well our trust for them becomes much higher. The point is that our trust grows with experience and knowledge of an-other person. And so does our experience and knowledge of God. Here my friend is another reason that we should be involved in a community of faith, in worshipping and glorifying our God, and in contuning to read and study the Word of God. This is so important for our spiritual growth for all of life, and particularly for our trust level toward God when a “crisis” comes in our life. We are never too old, nor is there ever an excuse that is acceptable to God for not studying and living by the Word of God.
At the risk of repeating this, I want to say that Marty realized last fall when she was diagnosed with AML, that she had never read the bible straight through, from beginning to end. So, she started to do so by reading a chapter in the morning and a chapter in the evening each day. She has been doing so since and when the lung doctor came in this morning, he said: “Oh, you are reading in the book of Kings!” And so she is – praise the Lord!
Who do you really trust? How strong is your trust of God?
Have a positive day and God bless!
